  • Navid, since I figured out you really enjoy watching SSSS.Gridman, I felt that I should ask you this:

When you watching episode 2 of that anime, did you felt that you overlooked on something out of ordinary? Correct me if I'm wrong. When I browsing some TV Tropes-related infos regarding SSSS.Gridman, those sites mentioned that one of female students featured in the opening sequence looked exactly like the energetic and sweet Akko! I initially believed such thing was purely a joke or simply another misleading info until I rewatched that episode and ultimately found the alleged lookalike of Akko in the images below (marked by red circle):

However, it doesn't stop right there: As I rewatching episode 2 of SSSS.Gridman partly in order to clarify that info, Akko's lookalike popped out again, this time in the screenshot below:

... and in Rikka's flashbacks when she spent her time with her friends:

This recurring appearance of Akko's lookalike made me suspecting that she's likely more than mere easter egg/joke. I mean, remember Pisces' appearance in Little Witch Academia TV Series initially believe to be a recurring joke in the series' early episodes until that fish confirmed to be one of Luna Nova Professors in Orange Submariner? I had a feeling that Akko's lookalike in SSSS.Gridman might be an actual secondary/miscellaneous character of her own right in the series.

    What's your opinion about it?

    • I did notice Akko in the opening! PS: While on the topic of the opening, the opening music is great. I love the ending theme too.

For now, Akko's lookalike is an easter egg. But I do want her to become a reccuring character, that would be interesting.

    • Same. It's nice to see a favorite character has her Easter egg in other franchise produced by Trigger Studio, you know? Not to mention that Akane, the one who sculpted monsters for the bad guy in that anime also voiced by same voice actor who voiced Jasminka.

    • Ah, I see.

I liked Samurai Caliber! The episode was exciting, especially the reveal about Akane Shinjo.

Ahh...I can see why that could be difficult.

Oooh. Very interesting. Yeah, it has enough build-up.

      Banner Saga 3 The Serpent

The fact that you were reincarnated from a being that nearly brought apocalypse to the world is indeed horrifying, even for Akko. Oh, and the Great Lindworm, which also known as Nidhoggr, also based on the nasty serpent from the video on the side.

Anyway, when browsing more images of Little Witch Academia in facebook, I found an image containing intriguing messages and requests for Trigger Studio and Yoh Yoshinari regarding possible sequel/season 2 of our beloved franchise as seen on the side. Some requests a bit ridiculous while others highlights mysteries and other stuff in anime that yet to be solved. One of peculiar ideas even mention Ursula aka. Chariot had a face-off with her blue-haired imposter/clone. It also highlight the hope of Croix appears as good guy who join forces with Akko and co. against worse threat.

    Check it out!

    • Next questions:

      A. The chance of Ursula suffers PTSD is likely, but how about Akko? I know she managed to save Ursula from Noir Rod attack, but the entire ordeal in Wagandea surely traumatizing considering how she thought Ursula as her second mom.

      B. The proposal of new villain of Little Witch Academia: Witches of Midgard (spoiler alert!):

Juno: The mysterious rogue witch and one of Naglfar's best assassins as well as Sucy's childhood archnemesis. For reasons unknown, she harbors immense, unconcealed hatred towards Akko and determined to kill her whenever given chance. It's later revealed that Juno is in fact, human incarnation of Loki, born from a piece of fossilized remains of the fallen God himself imbued with blood of Sucy's aunt Ramzan Manbavaran when she unintentionally injured herself with it.

Personality: Juno is an effective but mentally unstable assassin of Naglfar. Even back during her childhood at Ramzan's Home for Lost Children (orphanage that owned by Sucy's aunt Ramzan Manbavaran), Juno had developed inherent psychopatic tendencies, scaring her handlers and other children in the orphanage as well as scarred Sucy's left eye in a fight. In contrast of Akko who troubled by the knowledge of her being human incarnation of dreaded Great Lindworm, Juno accepted her nature as Loki's human incarnation very quickly, and harbored a belief that she should succeed what her past self failed, goes so far believing she couldn't become anything else than a God of Destruction, and reacting angrily when Akko (rightfully) pointed out that she now a mortal who has choice to become anything else like her. She also obsessed in unlocking the seal of Franang's Falls, believing she can be a true god worshipped by Naglfar by acquiring Loki's severed head.

      And here's Juno's Valkyrie Armor:

Thokk: A demonic white and pink Valkyrie Armor crafted by Helviti specifically for Juno and specialized in scythe combat. Characterized by a pair of horns protruding upwards on the hat & ominous aura it constantly enveloped with. Its devastating quirk is Trick Cubes, a pair of hovering metal cubes that can transform into variety of weapons includes missile with axe-like warhead that can cut almost anything. The Trick Cubes themselves turned out inspired by Croix's Noir Fuel Spirit device in appearance and ability to combine into powerful constructs albeit cruder than the latter. The armor was named after Þökk, the God of Destruction's giantess disguise he assumed in order to prevent Baldur from ever returning to Asgard after killing him and sending him to Helheim in process. Whoever wields the armor shall take the title Thokk the Massacring Valkyrie.

    • I see. Thanks for understanding.

      A. Hmm. I think it's less likely for Akko to suffer from PTSD. I mean, usually when she's usually sad, it doesn't take much for her to bounce back to her happy and energetic self.

      B. Ooooh. Interesting. Pretty cool character I'd say.

  • Hi Navid, I was wondering if you could look at some blog posts I made. Its called What did it Costs? and Chariot want to cut ties with Magic.

      Loading editor
    • Alright. I have seen them and commented in one of them.

        Loading editor
    • Yo, I made some modifications to the plot to the Road of Arcturus and was wondering if you think this is right.

Croix desperately used the Grand Triskellion but the result was parlor tricks. The multiple attempts caused Croix to be devastated as she dropped to the ground, ranting that this can't be the world altering magic she has been seeking. Chariot spoke Croix's name in sadness till Professor Woodward arrived. Noticing her, Croix demanded where the Grand Triskellion was. Woodward answered that Croix has had it. Croix refused to believe it but Woodward remained her stance and tells Croix that the stick is the Grand Triskellion that Chariot and Croix has spent more than a decade searching for.

Unfortunately, Croix enters into despair. She has just sacrificed her entire career and humiliated herself, losing the respect and earning possibly the wrath of the entire magic community to get a world altering magic that can't even work for her. It was at this point Croix suffered a breakdown and began to yell at Woodward by ranting on that throughout the quest, she was being pushed aside by the latter despite she had the dedication and passion for magic than Chariot. Chariot, still trapped witnessed the event in distress. She had long believed that Croix has fallen and wanted to claim the Grand Triskellion for herself but now she discovered that her old friend only wanted Woodward's guidance. What worsened the situation is how Woodward reacted to all this.

The ancient Witch showed no sympathy to Croix's plight, even being quiet throughout this whole situation which is something Croix doesn't want. Woodward also doesn't seem bothered or worried at the slightest that Chariot, her former student is hurt and was intent on leaving her like this. Chariot sorrowfully reached an epiphany. Despite all the teachings they had and the times they bonded, Woodward never valued all of them. Woodward only saw Chariot as a means to an end to revive magic, never a student nor a friend and willingly forsake those that looked up to her like Croix and later Chariot when she lost the Shiny Rod. It was because of Woodward that everything terrible has happened; Croix's descent to villainy, Akko's dream destroyed and disappearance and Chariot's decade long misery. It was all her fault.

After that, Croix yelled at Woodward to remove herself from her sight forever and threw the Grand Triskellion at her. A disappointed Woodward complied, abandoning the two and disappeared, taking the Grand Triskellion away while Chariot looked on sadly as her image of her mentor broken.

    • Yeah. Good job.

    • Now that I look at the scene with Woodward and Croix, it seems Croix didn't tell Chariot that she wanted Woodward's approval. My question is why Croix didn't tell her best friend as its not wrong to tell she admires Woodward since she is after all the progenitor of magic.

  • Now here are miscellaneous spells:

    A. Incoming New Spells:

    Magical Parade Spell

Magical Parade Spell is a fusion magic which harness the power of friendship to increase the caster's defensive and offensive attributes. As with other fusion magic, this spell requires at least two casters to perform and must be used in perfect synchronization for it to work. However, the end result of this spell, as well as its duration, are not simply depend on skill and proficiency of the participating caster alone, but also depends on their bonds. The stronger their bond, the greater its effect and duration.

    Mushroom Poison Bomb Spell

A spell invented by Sucy Manbavaran herself, Mushroom Poison Bomb Spell allows the caster to conjure a mushroom-shaped magic projectile which, upon hitting a target or obstacle, will explode and transform into chemical substance that instantly evaporate into a mist of deadly poison. As this spell combines magic, chemistry, and medical knowledge, using it require fine mastery over magic and advance knowledge in potion & poisons.

    Spirit Breath Spell

A magical art mastered by spiritual witches like Lotte Jansson. When casted, it summons twin large magic circles (one above the caster and another on the ground beneath both upper circle and the caster's feet) which emanate healing light that instantly heals anyone who caught in both circles including the caster as well as curing them of their ailments. The spell's radius and healing effect depends on the caster's mastery over it and true to its name, it is empowered by surrounding spirits.

    B. What's your favorite part in Binding Staff Part 1 and Binding Staff Part 2? If you curious what are actually mechanical monsters Akko, Lotte, Sucy, and Diana fought, you can read about them here!

    C. Does Wagandea pollen has corrosive properties? Rewatching Wagandea (episode), I noticed that Ursula's clothes slightly damaged and her skin also burnt when protecting Akko. Not to mention her glasses cracked.

    D.
Double Extreme Shiny Kara LWA WoM
Can you guess the identity of the armored witch in the image on the side?

  • Before Episode 23, did you suspect there was more to the story behind what happened with the Dream Fuel Spirit than was let on.

Eventhough we didn't see the next episode, episode 21 gave us an idea what happened to Chariot and why she decided to become a teacher. Much like her recklessness born from good intentions hurt Croix, she made that same mistake again where her good intentions backfired costing Akko her magic.

In Episode 23, Chariot was about to defend herself against Croix who lied that Chariot intentionally uses the spell but she didn't until Chariot saw Akko in distress. These contrasts on what Chariot was about to say to Croix and what she said to Akko shows that there is more to it.

    • It's true, but it doesn't mean her dream is beyond hope of restoration, as she later met Diana who suffer similar circumstances. Through their prep talk and having Diana gives her Chariot Premium Card, Akko finally able to restore her dreams and understood that no one is perfect, including her role model. She finally able to forgive her idol (albeit indirectly) upon overhearing Ursula crying out how much she blamed herself for indirectly causing Croix's fall to darkness as well as handicapping Akko's magical abilities which culminated to Noir Rod's rampage, the revelation of Grand Triskellion being not like what they expected, and shades of grey in Woodward.

  • Navid, I think I got some bad news and good news for expanding list of magic spells from the game.

The bad news is might a bit trivial. While I have a laptop to play Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time, it's turned out the game not compatible with it, perhaps due to the game being recently released and my said laptop being bought nearly a year before the game being released. But the good news is, I can dug some infos from the game's walkthrough in Steam community site.

    • I see.

If you ask me, considering Moonlit Witch is award for witches who participating in Samhain Festival which held once a year, Akko will have another chance to earn it in her either second or third year. For broom race, Akko must hone her skill in broom flight as in spite of finally fly for the first time by the end of the episode, Akko is far from ready for participating in it.

      How about you, Navid?
